[two_third_last]A Powerful Ally

There’s no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it
(pampering, rejuvenation, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress
relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.

The incredible benefits of massage are doubly powerful if taken in regular “doses.” Professionals at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami explain the more massages you get, the greater benefits you reap. Here’s why:[/two_third_last][one_half]

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While elimination of anxiety and
pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be unrealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress.[/one_half][one_half_last]

This translates into:
• Decreased anxiety
• Enhanced sleep quality
• Greater energy
• Improved concentration
• Increased circulation
• Reduced fatigue[/one_half_last]

Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.

Improves circulation, skin health, mood,
immunity, tissue regeneration and sleep

Increases flexibility and range of motion.

May reduce blood pressure, swelling, stress, anxiety, pain, tension and fatigue.

In conjunction with other medical care, may assist with fibromyalgia, attention deficit
disorder, arthritis, depression, trauma,
migraines and headaches.[/one_half_last]

Foot reflexology or zone therapy is an alternative medicine that is based on reflexologist posit that the blockage of an energy field, or invisible life force (Qi) can prevent healing. Another tenet of reflexology is the belief that practitioners can relieve stress and pain in other parts of the body. The physical act of applying thumb, finger and hand techniques performed without oils, lotions, or creams results in stress reduction causing physiological change in the body.  These hypotheses are rejected by the general medical community, who cite lack of scientific evidence.  Practices resembling reflexology have existed in previous historical periods.  Although its origins are not well documented there are reliefs on the walls of Egyptian tombs that depict people practicing reflexology.  Some areas may be tender or sore, and the reflexologist may spend extra time on these points.

Reasons people get reflexology:

  • stress
  • tension headaches
  • digestive disorders
  • arthritis
  • insomnia
  • hormonal imbalances
  • sports injuries
  • premenstrual syndrome
  • constipation
  • back pain
