25 Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar

25 Uses for Apple Cider Vinegar
* organic, unfiltered, and raw

Apple cider vinegar is known to kick metabolism into overdrive! An effective fat burner, it helps reduce overeating (allows you to recognize when you are full quicker), speeds up the body’s metabolic rate and helps alkalize the body. For results, one to two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water should be consumed before each meal.

Having a bad scalp day? Let apple cider vinegar help! Add apple cider vinegar to water in equal parts, and then bathe your scalp in the solution for up to two hours (apply via a spray bottle). This will cleanse your scalp and rid it of dandruff. You can do this a couple of times a week for severe dandruff.

Stained yellow teeth be gone! For tough stains, rub apple cider vinegar directly onto your teeth, and then rinse your mouth out with water. For a less harsh treatment (which is kinder to tooth enamel), make your own whitening mouthwash by mixing one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a cup of water. Easy!

To remove the product build-up that dulls hair, wash your hair with normal shampoo, and then rinse with apple cider vinegar before conditioning. Cue a shiny mane!

I love what apple cider vinegar can do for the skin! For a natural astringent, apply a washcloth soaked in diluted apple cider vinegar to your face. This will restore your skin to its proper pH level, and make your face feel smoother and less oily (even reducing fine lines in the process). If you have any specific trouble spots i.e. age spots or acne, a dab of neat apple cider vinegar will do the trick.

A simple cup of apple cider vinegar added to 3.5 liters of warm water makes for a super shiny anti bacterial cleaner on most surfaces, including wooden floors and tiles. Too easy!

If you add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to half a cup of water, you have a very effective throat gargle. Gargle every hour at the first sign of a sore throat.

If you suffer an insect bite, a dab of apple cider vinegar and water (a 50:50 mixture) can be applied directly to the bite to alleviate pain and promote healing.

As we look forward to spring in the northern hemisphere, apple cider vinegar is amazing at helping reduce the irritation of sunburn – calming the skin and cooling the heat. Mix up a solution of 25% apple cider vinegar and 75% water,  and apply directly to any sunburn with a washcloth. Alternatively, you can always add apple cider vinegar to a bath.

Instead of adding poisonous chemicals to your dishwashing machine to remove build-up, apple cider vinegar works just as well (if not better) and keeps it smelling fresh. Toss a cup of it into the bottom of an empty dishwasher and run a normal cycle.

Apple cider vinegar taken before meals helps break down proteins into amino acids. Such amino acids are instrumental in the creation of tryptophan, which plays an important role in the release of the ‘feel-good’ neurotransmitter serotonin. This helps you feel relaxed and happy.

Apple cider vinegar contains enzymes which help prevent exhaustion. Add a tablespoon to a small glass of water.

Whenever I suffer from acid reflux or heartburn, a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar sorts it out pronto! Helpful in breaking down food in the stomach, it is a natural and effective way to aid digestion.

Tired of spending a fortune on nasty drain chemicals? You don’t have to anymore with your own natural DIY solution of apple cider vinegar, baking soda and salt. Mix half a cup of baking soda and half a cup of salt together, and pour it down your drain, followed by half a cup of apple cider vinegar. The apple cider vinegar and baking soda react with each other to clean the drain. After three hours, flush the drain through with water.

If you are looking for a natural and harmless way to keep your clothes feeling soft (without resorting to toxic nasties), apple cider vinegar is the answer. Adding half a cup of apple cider vinegar to your machine instead of regular fabric conditioner is all it takes.

Suffer from smelly feet? Spray your feet with equal parts water and apple cider vinegar solution. The acid in the apple cider vinegar will help fight off bacteria that causes the smell. It is also great for foot fungus, so a winner all-round.

Apple cider vinegar dissolves uric acid in the body, aiding joint mobility. Just add one to two cups to a warm/hot bath and have a soak for up to 30 minutes, ensuring you drink plenty of water before and afterwards.

A brilliant aftershave, apple cider vinegar helps prevent razor burn and other soreness from shaving. Dilute 50:50 with water, and apply as you would a regular aftershave. Don’t worry about the initial smell, this disappears once the vinegar has dried.

Apple cider vinegar contains pectin which soothes intestinal spasms. Drink one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of water before eating to help reduce gas and bloating.

If you can’t see out of your windows due to dirt, don’t reach for the supermarket window spray. Create a 50:50 solution of apple cider vinegar and water, and spray it onto your windows. Wait for the windows to dry and then wipe them with a paper towel to remove smears.

Soak a cotton ball in neat apple cider vinegar and tape it to your wart overnight for as many nights as it takes.

A spoonful of pure apple cider vinegar triggers nerves in the throat stopping hiccups dead! For real!

Apple cider vinegar is a natural deodorant, and can be applied to your armpits to neutralize odors.

Known for its odor-eating qualities, a gargle of apple cider vinegar diluted in water for ten minutes is a great way to restore your breath.

Is your body sore? A soothing apple cider vinegar bath might be just what you need to rid your body of pain. Add a cup to your next soak.

Do you use Soy in your diet? Things you may not be aware of!

Myths and Truths About Soy

Myth: Use of Soy as a food dates back many thousands of years.

Truth: Soy, was first used as a food during the late Chou dynasty (1134-246 BC) only after the Chinese learned to ferment soybeans to make food like tempeh, natto, and tamari.

Myth: Modern Soy foods confer the same health benefits as traditionally fermented soy foods.

Truth: Most modern soy foods are not fermented to neutralize toxins in soybeans, and are processed in a way that denatures proteins and increases levels of carcinogens.

Myth: Soy food provide complete protein.

Truth: Like all legumes, soybeans are deficient in sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine. In addition, most processing denatures fragile lysine.

Myth: Soy formula is safe for infants.

Truth: Soy foods contain trypsin inhibitors that inhibit protein digestion and adversely affect pancreatic function. On test animals, diets high in trypsin inhibitors led to stunted growth and pancreatic disorders. Soy foods increase the body’s requirements for vitamin D, needed for strong bones and normal growth. Phytic acid in soy foods result in reduced bioavailability of iron and zinc and are required for health and development of the brain and nervous system. Soy lacks Cholesterol, also essential for the brain and nervous system. Mega doses of phytoestrogens in soy formula have been implicated in the current trend towards increasingly premature sexual development in girls and delayed sexual development in boys.

Fungal Infections

Fungi and yeast feed on decomposing or dead tissues. They exist everywhere; inside our stomachs, on our skin, and even out on your lawn.

When kept under control, the yeast and fungi populating our bodies are harmless and digest what our bodies cannot or do not use.

When we feed the naturally occurring fungi in our bodies to many acid-ash foods, such as; sugar, animal proteins, and dairy products, the fungal populations grow out of control. This condition in known as systemic candidiasis and is marked by fungi invading the blood, gastrointestinal tract, and tissues.

Fungal cultures such as candida excrete large amount of poisons called mycotoxins as part of their life cycle. These poisons must be detoxified by the liver and immune systems. Eventually they can wreck enormous damage on the tissues and the organs and are believed to be an aggravating factor in many degenerative diseases such as cancer, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes.

Insufficient intake of minerals and trance minerals like potassium, magnesium, and zinc may also stimulate candida and fungal overgrowth.

Symptoms of Systemic Fungal Infection:

– Fatigue/ Low Energy

– Low Resistance to Illness

– Allergies

– Unbalanced Blood Sugar

– Headaches

– Irritability

– Mood Swings

– Indigestion

– Colitis and Ulcers

– Diarrhea/Constipation

– Urinary Tract Infections

– Rectal and Vaginal Itch

Examples of fungal infections or yeast overgrowth are athletes foot, ringworm, thrush, yeast infections, intestinal candida, and toe fungus.

A Powerful Ally

There’s no denying the power of bodywork. Regardless of the adjectives we assign to it (pampering, rejuvenation, therapeutic) or the reasons we seek it out (a luxurious treat, stress relief, pain management), massage therapy can be a powerful ally in your healthcare regimen.

The incredible benefits of massage are doubly powerful if taken in regular “doses.” Professionals at the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami explain the more massage you get, the greater benefits you reap. Here’s why:

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. While elimination of anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage can, without a doubt, help manage stress.

This translates into:
• Decreased anxiety.
• Enhanced sleep quality.
• Greater energy.
• Improved concentration.
• Increased circulation.
• Reduced fatigue.

Furthermore, clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a massage. The emotional balance bodywork provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.

Help Yourself to Health

What exactly are the benefits of receiving massage or bodywork treatments? Useful for all of the conditions listed below and more, massage can:
• Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
• Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
• Ease medication dependence.
• Enhance immunity by stimulation lymph flow – the body’s natural defense system.
• Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
• Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
• Improve the condition of the body’s largest organ – the skin.
• Increase joint flexibility.
• Lessen depression and anxiety.
• Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
• Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
• Reduce post-surgery adhesion and swelling.
• Reduce spasms and cramping.
• Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
• Release endorphins – amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller.
• Relieve migraine pain.

Ear Candling

“An alternative aide for ear health.”

The healing method now called ear candling has been around for centuries. Many nations have used the method for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians employed needs in this technique. Native Americans have also done ear candling using cornhusks by dipping them in beeswax to make a hollow candle. The process was also known in ancient India, Tibet and in the Aztec culture.

Ear candling was originally used for purification prior to or as part of ancient rights of initiation. Ear candling was used to assist in opening the body’s spiritual centers, thus cleaning and cleansing the spiritual body through the physical. It is still believed ear candling can break up blockages in the subtle energy system and the subconscious where repressed emotions and memories can lie hidden from the conscious mind, causing degenerative disease.

How is it that positive results can be obtained?

Our theory is that such effects are possible because all the passages in the head are interconnected, allowing the candles to drain the entire system osmotically through the membrane of the ear. All nerves have a thin coating of spinal fluid which can become polluted. The fluid in your body circulates 14 times a day in order to cleanse itself. If the system is laden with toxicity from the environment and the food we eat; then the body cannot take in what it needs in the way of metabolites for the nerves.

There are many reasons why our cranial bones become misaligned. Colds, birth trauma, environmental toxicity, the hats we wear, earphones, telephones, headphones, scarves, even eye glasses, can all change the osmotic pressure on the nerve that relates to our senses of taste, smell, hearing and sight. The only mechanical influence on our ears is when we swallow or when we hold our breath. These are the only way to alter the pressure in our ears to clear our Eustachian tubes. If the tubes are irritated they will not drain. When you swallow and have anything covering your ears, it constricts the bones even more creating more of an internal vacuum. If the pressure continues to build up, your body reaches a point of stasis. The pressure cannot be released and it continues to build.

Ear coning acts as a catalyst to clear out debris accumulated on nerve endings. This allows for clear vibrational flow to the corresponding area of the mind, body and spirit, and clears the way for other methods of healing.

The way it works

The spiral of the cone draws out debris. Smoke goes into the ear. Picture a chimney with it’s’ fire and oxygen dynamics. A draw is created. Debris is osmotically drawn through the eardrum into the cone. In the outer ear canal excess hardened wax plugs may also be drawn out. It creates a reverse osmotic pressure that equalizes the Eustachian tube pressure. Candling is very soothing, relaxing and non-invasive. At no point does the tip of the cone in the ear get hot to the touch. Heat is not a factor.

Ear coning is simply a catalyst to clear the respiratory system-

  • It helps sinuses clear
  • It helps drain lymph glands
  • It vacuums off nerve endings in the ear canal
  • It vacuums out the Eustachian tubes.

A wonderful side effect is deep relaxation…it stimulates the anti stress acupuncture point in the auditory canal. You see its effect on hyper active kids as well as adults. Coning will also help the body move out excess wax deposits.

Q: How many conings should I do initially?

A: It is recommended to do three. The first coning starts the healing process. The first coning removes the top layer of debris, which allows the body to push up more. You wait 3 to 7 days to give your body a chance to do the job. The third coning completes what was kicked up over the last two. Every 3 to 5 days would be best. This is the general consensus among our group of practitioners.

Q: How much is too much candling?

A: General guidelines:

  • Maintenance- one to two treatments a month
  • Prevention- two to three treatments in fall and winter
  • Acute cases- one to two treatments a day for a week
  • Chronic cases- one to two treatments a day for a month

Q: Are there any reasons why a person cannot be coned?

A: If a person has a broken or missing eardrum coning would cause them to sit up and cough. It would not hurt them but it would be useless. Although it has been noted it does offer relief in the sinus passages.

Q: Can a cough be caused by earwax?

A: It may sound strange, but it’s true- earwax can be the cause of chronic coughing that persists for long periods of time. Impacted earwax can push against a coughing nerve in the ear canal, which stimulates the coughing reflex. Many mistakenly think it is being caused by an allergy, cold or postnasal drip- the most common causes of chronic coughing and they let it go on and on. Clients are often amazed to find the coughing ends after their ears are cleaned.
